Artist | WinPE LI
WinPE LI is the patriarch of theater stage art in Peking opera. He has been engaged in the stage art design of Peking Opera throughout his life and has been closely tied to the Peking opera art. The Peking opera characters created by him have unique artistic appeal, and the story behind their creation is also of great value. Mr. Li Wenpei is a cultural ambassador of carrying forward, propagating and spreading not only Chinese ink opera characters combined with Chinese quintessence art but also other diversified and overall art forms. While introducing the creation of Peking opera figure painting to domestic and overseas, he also trys to solve the double spread of humanistic and historical value in Peking opera with his brushes and vivid Calligrapher’s vision.
Wenpei LI was born in Beijing in 1938 and graduated from the stage art department of Central Academy of Drama in 1964. He is the first-class national stage artist of People’s republic of China, the managing director of the calligraphy and Painting Academy of Ministry of culture in People's Republic of China, the member of the China Dramatist Association, the director of the Chinese stage Artists Association, the part-time professor of the National Huaqiao University, and the managing director of Japan China cultural and sports association. There have been more than 40 Peking Operas, such as "THE RED LANTERN", Peking Opera and the film "RED DETACHMENT OF WOMEN", and "PEACH BLOSSOM FAN”, which is in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Ouyang Yuqian’s birth. Besides, he also works as the art design and art consultant for the TV drama and Chinese ink animation "DRUNKEN BEAUTY".
Artist | Chengyu WANG
Chengyu WANG was born in 1976 and graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Shenyang Normal University in 1998.
Artist Chengyu WANG expresses his creative style of the present stage with "freehand brushwork". He extended the techniques of Chinese ink to the field of oil painting, combining the connotation of Chinese opera characters with modern thoughts and emotions. The attempt to break the existing forms of painting and the language of art makes Chengyu WANG's painting reveal a kind of exquisite sense of humor.
Chengyu WANG is an exquisite thinker. He uses a scraper to spill the acrylic paint on the canvas. The emotion of the unique painting technique is not elegant but profound. At present, the silhouette of social life is free in the classical dramatic plot of the picture, and the figure of the opera is sketched out, in a gentle or a humorous way, looking backward the hasty times. For an individual, this "freehand" temperament is an expression of the artist's pursuit of himself and the performance of his every inch of imagination.
Drama life
Holderlin said, "The world is full of achievements, but people live in the land of poetry." We do not believe that life is just an uninteresting repetition. The Star Center for Contemporary Art hopes to find the beauty of life and a brand new possibility through a series of literature and art life guides, in the form of holding the weekend's dramatic art events and teaching relevant art skills.
Drama life | Grass and wood dyeing
"Grass dyeing" is a method of dyeing textiles with natural plant dyes. In the Neolithic age, mineral pigments and natural plant dyes were used at the same time. It has been found that the roots, stems, leaves and skins of flowers and fruits can be impregnated with warm water to extract dye solution. After repeated practice, the ancient Chinese people finally grasped a set of dyeing technology with this dye. "Grass dyeing" is a method of dyeing fabrics with natural flowers and trees. It is an ancient traditional dyeing technology in China.
It is also known as plant dyeing. Because of the different molecular structure of natural dyes, the dyeing method also has great difference. The best dyeing technique should be based on the nature of dyes.
In a time when the simple chemical dyes are widely used, the traditional method of "grass and wood dyeing" has not been forgotten. This is the contribution of Chinese people to the inheritance of their culture. We invite you to join us to be the inheritor of grass and wood dyeing.
